fly fishing

RETIRING! After more than a decade of being a full time fly fishing guide, I am retiring from all Minnesota and Wisconsin guiding as of the end of the Fall 2017 season. I will continue to guide summers in Alaska. I would like to thank all of my loyal clients who have made my guiding career rewarding and enjoyable. I will see you on the rivers. The decision comes after realizing that I have many destinations I would like to fish myself and I had better get on it, as I am not getting any younger.

Scott Thorpe Fly Fishing was a small, personalized fly fishing guide service specializing in providing a unique outdoor experience, with each trip tailored to individual needs. My guiding was a direct reflection of my own personal angling journey and focused equally on the fish and their environment. My passion is fly fishing for steelhead in the tributary streams of Lake Superior including the Brule River and fly fishing for brown trout and brook trout in the spring creeks of the driftless area of southeastern Minnesota and southwestern Wisconsin.

One of the reasons my angling journey has focused on steelhead and trout is that I love the places that trout live, from the rushing cascades of the spate rivers of Minnesota's north shore of Lake Superior to the gentle meanderings of watercress rimmed spring creeks of the driftless region.

Although I will no longer be guiding, I intend to remain very active in the local fly fishing scene. I will continue to provide clinics, steelhead presentations and guide for select charity events.
